AMA Recap of Dude’s Army x ArGo
On Monday, April 26th, Dude’s Army community had the great opportunity to host an AMA with ArGo’s team, very instructive and educational. We will share with you a little bit of what this experience was like.
We will start the AMA. To start with a good mood, share a bit about yourself and your background!
I am Prashant Maurya, and I carry 6 year around of experience in development, i have worked with good names in the industry, worked in multiple domains And Coming to blockchain. It’s been around a year, i have been into the space and during my time into the space i was always searching for the place where i can place my expertise and knowledge
I am pure dev by nature 🙂
Awesome, then you will understand argo pretty well
Explain to us what you are building on Argo and what’s so innovative about it?
We are building a platform which ship users web applications or data to the decentralised ecosystem
What is new we are doing is, we are trying to provide user a flexibility of choosing any DSN depending on their need, by keeping only one token in the Wallet, that is ARGO
We are helping users to truly decentralised the ecosystem.
In a very simple way.
So how are you bringing current applications to the decentralized ecosystem. Give me an example on the step to do that and the advantages. For example let’s say I have a online shop
Currently we have built a system around arweave and using argo platform, you can connect your github and do the deployment, and that is it. Your web app will be up and ruinning on the decentralised ecosystem. Now coming to what we currently support, we have started supporting react, angular, next, vue apps, which means any static application or SPA’s can be deployed.
If you build your online shop using those you just have to connect your github and deploy
What about the requirements to do that? I need to hold Argo?
As of now it’s free
You just need github account, and login and deploy your web app code
And what will be the cost advantages? How cheap would be to run an web app on Argo?
It will be always cheaper than the other platforms in the ecosystem, since our entire system will be governed and handled by the providers.
If you deploy anything it will hardly cost you 0.2 cents
That to your site will be live forever
If you want to use custom DNS then you have to pay something, but for time being we kept it free for everyone
Ok! So how will the token work around the ecosystem?
We have broken down token utility into three steps
- Platform fees
Platform fee will be paid by the user, even the same can be used to claim discounts and access some early adopter features
We will be governed by the DAO which means our community member will be able to participate in the ecosystem
Staking has two parts, provider staking and user delegation
Where i user wants to participate in the system, by not actively using the platform, thet can delegate the token on providers and can earn profit splits
We will be updating these details on our paper by this week end
The usual ecosystem utilities
Argo and other competitors?
I have seen a few other projects decentralizing the network (not sure if that’s the proper term but ok lol)
Yeah, there are few, but they basically have tokens but we are opening our doors for running nodes
Coming to competition. Currently we have arweave as underlying layer which provides permanent storage and deployment
Which means once your application deployed you can never see a downtime
Apart from it, users on the system will incentivised but most of the system of our competitors are not meant for it
We are building product around the community and shaping and designing the things around it. We also have HTTPS on the fly on your custom domain. We are also working to become better, it happens linearly and over the time
Q1 from Tahani SG:
I loved the idea of Argo, but how long do you think it will take before people can migrate from Google to the decentralized internet we once dreamed of?
It will take time, it might take years or decades depending how much our team and community participate. It’s really a tough space to educate people about decentralisation cloud, we are also going to run a channel to discuss specifically about decentralisation, we will try to educate people first. There is not solid years which i can say now. Frankly we are not trying to compete with any one. We are trying to bring better experience in the space
Q2 from Habibi:
Will it be required to have knowledge of some kind of programming language or something similar to be able to install our website in ArGo?
No it doesn’t, you just have to know about github for time being, but once we are ready with other integrations you can use them as well
Q3 from Gerardo Soto:
I understand that Argo is based on Arweave, which allows you to remember and keep applications and version records indefinitely, but how beneficial is it really to have the applications and version records to develop new platforms and applications?
I am a developer and I can say this, your application audit logs and versions matters alot once you start building and deploying applications. As a company or developer they always want to see what happened during deployment, apart from it, if you want to rollback you changes, and want to point older one that is where you end up in mess, that is where argo plays a important role in case of arweave
Q4 from Mariana:
In order for Permaweb to work properly, you need a large number of nodes so that as many web sites as possible are available. How to solve? How do you solve the liquidity problem?
Permaweb has already lot of nodes running, i have went through their yellow paper before starting building app around it. Belive me there won’t be liquidity issue in near future, even though in worst it happens, arweave team is our partner which means we will never go out tokens 🙂
ArGo is a revolutionary decentralized web app deployment and hosting platform that is built on blockchain technology on the Arweave: a new type of storage that backs data with sustainable and perpetual endowments. This allows developers to truly store data forever — for the very first time. ArGo is an uncensored, permanent platform for businesses and ideas on the internet with 100% uptime and a one-time deployment fee.
